I'd rather not tie money up in something that I can't drive but have to continue to insure.

Assuming it is paid for like mine, it is expensive to maintain plus the insurance. No real savings. What you save on gas you more than put back into it for repairs and maintenance, not to mention the helmet, and other riding gear. You buy a motorcycle for the enjoyment of riding it.

Knuckleheads like that will soon kill themselves and remove their inferior genes from the gene pool. Bikers who are rational live long lives and contribute their 'fit' genes to the gene pool.

Keep that in mind and you should be OK""""" Agree, it is very easy to remain safe while riding a motorcycle. You just have to develop a sense of whats happening around you in every direction. There are plenty of guys out there in their 60's who have been riding for 40 years or more uneventfully, bikes are very safe. People who make dumb comments like 'widowmaker' do so because they never learned what a bike rider learns - how to be alert in traffic. Car drivers don't have to be alert. They can go merrily along and not worry about anything. Not true with motorcycles. Consequently bike riders become excellent motorists, much better than car only drivers as their two wheeled skills translate to 4 wheels.

Also consider that a motorcycle with 100,000 miles is usually worthless. And is also unusual. Not that unusual for BMWs and Goldwings but very unusual for sport bikes and most Japanese models.

The truth is I love to ride and my wife says I’m a much happier Johnny when I ride. You just need to remember on a bike everyone is blind and intent on killing you. Still own two of them. Seldom ride on the road now,but offroad ocassionally,safer is the word. My rides go back to 1954,other cycles at that time more MPG and fun!

When the first bike we got died, we thought nothing of trading it in for a newew bike, rather than looking for a newer vehicle, even though both of our vehicles were getting "up there" in both age and miles. Now his truck has died and we are down to my car and the bike and unless it's raining in the morning or too cold, he's taking the bike to work and saving 15-20 a week in gas.

I have three excellent reasons, all involving death: I have seen too many riders' body parts strewn over the road. I have had one too many friends (who were expert riders and instructors in motorcycle safety) killed by inattentive automobile drivers. My wife would kill me and then divorce me.
