If you have any problems with ice dams, it's a good chance to add insulation - and use special low-slope shingles.

i would not go for any shingle I would go for a permanent roof one you only have to replace every 100 years not every 10 to 15 years, it may cost you more but in the long run its worth it.we used this type and it looks really good as asphalt roofing can no longer contain any asbestos its lifetime is no more than 15 years at best, do not get a stainless steel roof these peel and look disgusting after a few years

Oh gawd no. If you want to replace a roof, preferrably an old roof that needs replacing, the big box stores would be the expensive way to go. Look for a local builders' supply. Better product and value.

Okay now that the Gas Buddy snark patrol has passed through.....
Here in Florida we typically use dimensional asphalt roofing shingles. We use lighters due to the heat. Different weather conditions call for different products. I would ask someone that has some expertise in roofing in your area.
