from nervous FYI: Update, September 11, 2012: my new article on gas prices looks at Bush’s entire presidency (average price $2.14/gal) and his first four years (average price $1.68/gal) to DOCUMENT that he was FAR BETTER at gas prices than was Obama thus far in his first four years (average price $2.99/gal).
At this point in September 2012, Obama has been president for 43 months. If we compare Obama’s first 43 months in office to Bush’s first 43 months in office, you will find that Obama has still been awful in comparison. At this same point during Bush’s first term, in September of 2004, gasoline cost $1.89 a gallon. Versus with Obama and gas prices of $3.82 a gallon today. There is absolutely no legitimate comparison that will make Obama look anything other than terrible. Read more at http://blog.gasbuddy.com/blogpostV2.aspx?postid=1327&category=1715&topic=512547&page_no=1&ign=2#L4E8lQeGkmGxBfr8.99
Except Obama got us out of the war that Bush got us into and started the national debt on the way to where it is now. Had Bush not went war, or if he would have paid for it and not left it to the next President to deal with, we wouldn't have quite as much debt now. And the President can only do what Congress allows him to do. And since the House and Senate have to be so dang divided, all because of Party, they can hardly ever come to a compromise, so nothing gets passed to make anything better. I am independent, so I don't lean one way or the other. That is why I said it(the debt) wouldn't be quite as much. President Obama hasn't done everything right, some by his choosing, some due to the fact that Congress won't let him. But John Boehner says they will never agree to more taxes, and how is it fair for millionaires to pay less/no taxes than middle class America? It isn't. The rich are getting richer, and anyone that isn't rich is going broke. And that is in BOTH parties. We need to do away with political parties. And if we took all the money that was spent on advertising and everything for the election, and we put it towards the national debt, or schools, or anything else that is failing, imagine the impact that would have? I am sure all that money would make a heck of a dent in anything it is applied to, instead of tv ads and such.

Adjusted for inflation, are the prices that high? What about other fluids like soda and bottled water?
Carranco: It is because you won't pay your fair share and let the rich get away without paying taxes.

We have the highest gas prices ever, the most people on food stamps, and are the most in debt, i.e. $16 trillion. Thanks OBLAMA!

5Golfer8. dastard57, and redtruckaz,
Do ANY of you remember who the president of the US was in September 2008, when gas prices were "$3.83/gal for the month"????
It wasn't Obama, so maybe you need to get educated on who it is that really controls the oil and gasoline prices, I'll give you a hint it isn't Obama.

National average hits highest ever for any September date, would you expect anything different? The trend for gas prices at the pump is up and will remain that way according to Chucky. Big Oil continues to sell fuel and natural gas on the world market for higher prices, there will be NO price reduction for the cost of fuel or natural gas IN the US. 'Coming out of the closet' Chucks lousy, smoke and mirrors, lack of jobs, dog and pony show and in the crapper economy, the jobs are Not here. Chuck's economy is not improving but continues to hurt the population and the job numbers continue to be down – no matter how smoooooth talking Chuck spins those numbers and he can spin them very well! People will still drive and buy fuel no matter what but it sure helps to have a job too! The US ‘oil and natural gas resources’ belong to the citizens of this country and are to be used by those same citizens! Speculators, manipulators and the banks continue to unfairly and unjustly make the driving public pay higher prices at the pump for their personal benefit. How much will gas prices go up and they will rise, the trend is always up with fuel prices. The price at the pump needs to go down to $2/gallon, $3, $3.50/gallon or $4.00 is Not the new low! All in the big plan to rid the population of its money and Chucky as your savior. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

"Back in 2008, gasoline prices were high, but only managed to hit a high of $3.83/gal for the month,..."
That can't be true, because Obama wasn't president in September 2008.
And as some here keep saying, over and over that Obama is to blame for high gasoline prices, that would mean the above quoted statement can't be true.

The worst part of it all, is that there is absolutely no good reason for the high prices. Tensions in the Middle East do not mean disruptions of oil delivery, the hurricanes did not cause that much damage and the refineries are all up and operating. Why are we paying so much?

"Nice, too bad our dear leader canceled the keystone pipeline."
Here's what FactCheck.Org has to say about the Keystone pipeline:
More Pipeline Piffle (And An Alaskan Absurdity) Posted on March 30, 2012 The misleading assault on the president’s energy policies continues. ? A conservative group’s TV ad claims “we will all pay more at the pump” because the administration “blocked” the Keystone XL pipeline. ? Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell claims that the pipeline “could have brought 700,000 barrels of oil to the market each day.” ? The TV ad also claims that Obama “opposed exploring for energy in Alaska,” which is only half true. All those claims are false or misleading. Regarding the pipeline, as we’ve reported, there’s nothing stopping more Canadian oil from coming into the U.S. right now. Existing cross-border pipelines could carry perhaps 1 million additional barrels of oil per day, and surplus capacity is projected to persist for years to come even without the Keystone project. Furthermore, Obama hasn’t “blocked” it. The Keystone’s sponsor says it expects the White House to approve the northern leg, from Hardisty, Alberta, to Steele City, Nebraska, in 2013, after it submits an application for a new route around Nebraska’s environmentally sensitive Sandhills region. Meanwhile, it is going ahead with the southern portion, which Obama has endorsed, ordering agencies to expedite permitting. As for the claim that Obama “opposed exploring for energy in Alaska.” The truth is that Shell Oil days ago said it expects to begin drilling exploratory wells this summer in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas off Alaska’s Arctic coast, now that the Interior Department has granted approvals for the company’s oil spill response plans.

What is amazing is that big oil and speculators have successfully convinced people that the president is responsible for these prices. Who is benefiting from the high price of oil and gas? Hmmm? When did this price crap start? Who was president when it started? How much more oil has come from the US in the last few years? Which candidate is being backed by these rich corporations? Instead of blaming someone, because you're jumping on the "it's all his fault" bandwagon, maybe you should do some research without listening to the media BS.

Much more damaging to our budget, but less noticeable and not as obvious - the constant rise of grocery prices.
Perhaps you can cut back on gas, but you've gotta eat.
