Ill. regulators delay Ameren pollution controls

Daily Cronicle -- CHICAGO – State regulators have granted Ameren Corp. a five-year delay in the installation of pollution controls at a large coal-fired power plant in southeastern Illinois after the company threatened to close other plants and cut hundreds of jobs.

Ameren had argued that because of the drop in electricity prices – driven in part by competition from natural gas plants – it could no longer afford to finish installing sulfur dioxide scrubbers at its Newton plant under the original timetable.

Environmental groups lambasted the regulators'

When you find out that there are no replacement plants planed for the 200 coal fired plants you want shut down and you have brownouts and blackout lasting for weeks and months. You'll be screaming for new one's to be built.
Ain't great going green and without electricity.

First thing I'Ve seen coming out of chicago that made sense. EPA and all their lovers go away. Jobs and livihood needs a little more time to fix and not have stupid rules come up every day from the EPA to stifle every one. If it bothers the Sierraa club and the rest of them, stay away from chicago. It's not your jobs affected. (EPA gets billions of dollars and hundreds of useless staff living off it while they have no concern for the people that have no jobs.) Should cut off their funding.

They should work to put the safety controls a little at a time. That should help.

So THAT'S how you win against the EPA - threat to shut them ALL down if they push too hard. Wowza.

Closing plants cut jobs. Why does that not get Bozama's attention? 44 days until the ejection. Early voting is already open in some areas.
