Ten Reasons Why Fracking is Doomed

OIL Price -- Proponents of natural gas fracturing and oil drilling are delirious with joy over the ability to recover shale gas, which has brought down world gas prices and made the US a major player again. Likewise, North Dakota wells are set to produce up to 800,000 barrels of oil a day soon. (Although, since the world uses roughly 89 million barrels a day, and the US uses a fifth of that, and demand in Asia will likely spike in coming years, the ND addition is just not that much).

Fracking is dangerous to ground water purity, and both oil and gas, as hydrocarbons, contribute to global climate change, which is a dire threat to human well-being in coming decades and centuries.

There is no "safe way" to generate energy, but there are many ways to make it safe enough for most people to accept. Fracking has relied too heavily on the payments to politicians to do their bidding, which is a bad business practice.

The right wing extremists are just tripping out right now, spewing what they consider to be "facts". What is funny is that a major oil company CEO admitted that fracking can cause some problems. Lets face it, NO process is without problems! But there are not problems every time or everywhere you frack. Having said that, Fracking is anything but Doomed. It does enable us to reach oil & natural gas that we could not reach before. & it would be silly to think we can get buy with only one source of energy. While left wing extremists want to go totally green, Right wing extremists will be left behind & jobless like steel workers if they don't embrace some change.

If and when solar and wind become economically comparable to nuclear, oil, gas, and coal, I'd be happy to see them contributing to the economy. The "subsidizes" are no more so than other business investments, unlike the billions dumped down the black hole of poor investments by the DOE.] And this says a lot, right out of the article: "two huge offshore wind farms off the coast of Norfolk (the eastern coast). Together, they will have the capacity to produce over a gigawatt of power (roughly one nuclear power plant’s worth)." England is going to "invest" thousands of square miles in offshore wind farms, along with creating the infrastructure to get the energy to land, rather than build a single nuclear power plant that can fit into a fraction of one percent of the same space.

The process will always threaten ground water contamination but that will not stop it from being used with the greed for power. If the story is correct about wind and solar power becoming less costly to produce then that is a big plus to reduce the demand for oil and coal even though not a complete solution.

We need to make sure that the discussion is productive, and that any rules are legitimately conceived. Fact must be sEPArated from fiction. The most common claim talking point is that hydraulic fracturing contaminates ground water. This is baseless. Have you ever noticed that the critics who make that claim never provide concrete evidence? The reason for their omission? It is obvious why. After being used more than 1.2 million times there have been no confirmed cases of hydraulic fracturing contaminating water. None. Never. Ever. As EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson said in April of 2012, "In no case have we made a definitive determination that the fracking process has caused chemicals to enter groundwater." The three "smoking gun" cases that the anti-shale zealots were sinking their teeth into have proven false or based on very poor science. See Pavillion WY, Dimoch, PA, and Parker County, TX. The latest fear mongering is "climate change" thru methane emission from hydraulic fracturing. Once again SCIENTIFIC investigation has shown the EPA using numbers that are overblown by 50%. Oh and the "evil Halliburton Loophole" talking point! LOL, what a joke. This is the errant claim born out of the yellow journalism of "gasland", a proven fraudulent film by Josh Fox, that hydraulic fracturing is "exempt" from the Safe Drinking Water Act, thanks to an energy bill passed by Congress in 2005. The truth??? SDWA has been the law of the land for nearly 40 years, and at no point has it ever covered hydraulic fracturing. Why??? States already tightly and effectively regulate the process. How can an industry be exempt from something that never covered you in the first place? But you hear this falsehood talking point most every time the subject comes up. It is important to rely on facts and the science, not fear-mongering talking points

For every watt of solar electricity produced, you have to have one watt of conventional electricity generation to back it up. The sun doesn't shine at night and it does get cloudy, after all. So thinking solar is going to replace conventional generation is just ridiculous!

Oil and Water don't mix, they have been underground together for millennium and fracking has no affect on ground water.
